[Action of microbe-antagonists on bacilli and corynebacteria of the skin of the breast in nursing women]

[Article in Russian]

Reznik SR, Smirnov VV, Sytnik SI, Dannik LM, Sytnik IA.

Five microbes-antagonists are studied for their inhibitory action on 769 strains of bacilli (241) and corynebacteria (528) isolated from the mammary gland skin of 120 nursing women on the 2nd-5th day after labour. Escherichia coli M-17 and Mycococcus krassilinikovi are established to possess the highest antagonistic properties against the spore-bearing aerobic and coryneform bacteria. Bifidobacterium bifidum has exerted a moderate antagonistic action on the culture under study, Bacillus subtilis has exerted a strong inhibitory action on corynebacteria. B. licheniformis has slightly inhibited the both bacterial groups.

[Microbiological aspects of the elaboration of effective antibiotic therapy of bacterial lesions of the biliary tract]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA.

Sensitivity of staphylococci of different origin to desoxycholic, cholic and choleic bile acids was studied. On this basis a system for differentiation of the staphylococcal bilicultures from the staphylococcal cultures of the other origin was developed. It was shown that the bile and bile acids potentiated the activity of some antibiotics and inhibited the action of the others. Such a strictly individual property of synergism or antagonism of the cholates and antibiotics depended on the properties of the causative agent and the type of the antibiotics and bile acids. The results of the study provided the development of a method for determination of the biliculture antibiotic sensitivity on a medium containing the patient's bile. The antibiotic which induced the maximum inhibition of the bacterial growth in the presence of the patient's bile should be recommended for the treatment of this patient.

[Combined effect of benzylpenicillin, furagin and bile acids on staphylococci]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA, Tkachuk NI.

The results of the study of the effect of benzylpenicillin or furagin in combination with bile acids, such as cholic, glycocholic and desoxycholic on the collection cultures of staphylococci are presented. The study showed that the subbacteriostatic doses of the bile acids increased the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects of benzylpenicillin and furagin by tens and hundreds times. The highest potentiation effect was attained with the use of the furagin combination and desoxycholic acid.

[Joint action of aminoglycoside antibiotics and nitrofurans with bile on bacteria of the genus Proteus]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA, Puzakova EV.

The combined effect of monomycin, kanamycin, neomycin and nitrofurans, such as furacillin, furagin, nitrofurantoin and furazolidone with bovine bile was studied on 36 strains of Proteus mirabilis and 14 strains of Proteus vulgaris. It was found that sub-bacteriostatic doses of the bile significantly increased the antiproteus activity of the aminoglycoside antibiotics and nitrofurans. The combinations of the bile with monomycin and kanamycin and the bile with furazolidone and nitrofurantoin proved to be most effective. Clinical trials of the drugs in treatment of inflammatory diseases of the biliferous system of the Proteus etiology are recommended.

[Bacteriostatic and bactericidal action of bile acids and antibiotics on staphylococci]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA, Andreichin MA, Kalashnik SA.

It was found in vitro that desoxycholic, cholic, glycocholic and choleinic acids inhibited the growth and development of staphylococci. The staphylococci isolated from bile were more resistant to the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect of bile acids than the microorganisms isolated from other sources not containing cholates. Under the effect of these substances the activity of some antibiotics especially those from the group of aminoglycosides markedly increased.

[Combined action of aminoglycoside group antibiotics and bile acids on staphylococci]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA, Klimniuk SI.

The results of in vitro studies on the potentiating effect of cholic, taurocholic, glycocholic and desoxicholic acids on the bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity of aminoglycoside antibiotics are presented. Ten fresh isolates of staphylococci were used in the experiments. Sensitivity of the isolates to the antibiotics and bile acids and their combinations was determined by the method of serial dilutions. Investigation of the combined effect of gentamicin, monomycin, kanamycin and neomycin with the bile acids showed that all of them had potentiating effect on the antimicrobial activity of the antibiotics. The potentiating effect of different acids and antibiotics was not the same. The highest potentiating activity was observed with the use of gentamicin or neomycin in combination with desoxycholic and cholic bile acids. Desoxycholic acid increased the bacteriostatic activity of gentamicin and neomycin by 781.3 and 2083.3 times respectively and cholic acid increased it by 382.7 and 2083.3 times. Cholic and desoxycholic acids potentiated also the bactericidal effect of gentamicin and neomycin. Taurocholic and glycocholic acids produced potentiation of various antibiotics by 8 to 60 times.

The highest potentiating effect was found with combination of benzylpenicillin and desoxycholic and choleic acids. When resistant strains of staphylococci were exposed to the combination of the bile acids and benzylpenicillin they became highly sensitive to antibiotic.

[Joint action of nitrofuran preparations and bile acids on bacteria of the genus Proteus]

[Article in Russian]

Sytnik IA, Puzakova EV.

Sensitivity of 25 fresh isolates of Proteus to some nitrofuran drugs most widely used in the clinical practice, such as furacillin, furagin, furazolidone and nitrofurantoin was studied. When the drugs were used in combination with some bile acids, i.e. desoxycholic, dehydrocholic, cholic and glycocholic acids, significant in vitro potentiation of the antibacterial activity of the nitrofurans against the isolates was observed. The combinations of the drugs with desoxycholic acid proved to be most effective. In the presence of this acid the bacteriostatic dose of the drugs decreased several thousand times. Combination of the nitrofurans with the other acids resulted in an increase in the antimicrobial activity amounting to several hundred times. The combinations of the drugs with the bile acids had not only bacteriostatic but also bactericidal effect.
